October is National Seafood Month. So, it is the right time to highlight the importance of building healthy oceans, and why we at bambu choose to be involved.
We chose sustainable seafood as one of our 'give back' programs. We donate 100% of the profits from the sale of our Sea-themed products to Seafood Watch. (see our collection of products here.)
Here's why.
The core of our business and values is promoting healthy eco-systems. We design and create products from renewable resources like bamboo, cork, hemp and coconut. We define renewable resources as natural materials that are sourced locally, abundant in their natural habitat, and close to where we have our workshops. Whether it is cooking tools made responsibly from a renewable material, or choosing a sustainably harvested and non-threatened fish species, it is about making smart choices. Learn more about our partnership with Seafood Watch here.
Our oceans and fish species are in a state of peril. The health of our planet is inextricably linked to the health of our oceans. We need to take swift action to help lessen the impact we put on our oceans.
The good news is that over 50% of U.S. consumers say that buying sustainable seafood is personally important and many are willing to pay a premium. Making a commitment to purchase environmentally responsible seafood is an action we can all take part in. That is why we are involved.
Seafood Watch is a valuable resource that works with consumers, educators and businesses to create awareness and encourage everyone to make sustainable seafood choices.
We are helping their efforts to build awareness through the distribution of the Seafood Watch Seafood Guide and the Seafood Watch smartphone app. And by donating the proceeds of the sales of our products to Seafood Watch.

Whole Foods Market and other responsible retailers are promoting sustainably harvested seafood. Marine Stewardship Council is a big part of the solution in labeling sustainable seafood sources.
You can be a part of the solution. We can band together and make smart choices that benefit everyone. Three simple ways to make smart choices
1) Know and trust your sources for the goods you buy.
2) Avoid contributing to waste.
3) Support companies and organizations who do good work.
