bambu becomes a B Corporation
We are pleased to share that in January 2018, bambu becomes an official certified B Corporation, an acknowledgment of the company’s commitment to social and environmental ethics, transparency, and accountability.
bambu joins more than 2400 Certified B Corporations globally – including more than 50 businesses in Oregon – that have met the rigorous standards that measure a company’s impact on its employees, suppliers, community and the environment.
What is a Certified B Corporation?
Certified B Corporations are a new type of corporation which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Corp certification is to sustainable business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.
Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on all stakeholders (e.g. workers, suppliers, community, customers, and the environment.)
Why do B Corps matter?
Certified B Corporations are leading a global movement to redefine success in business. By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, Certified B Corps are distinguishing themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.
B Corps are important because they inspire all businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world, but the best for the world.
Why did bambu decide to become a B Corp?
B Corp reflects the values upon which our company was founded and our operating philosophies today. We became B Corp because we believe that doing business goes beyond the financial performance of a company. The B Corp Impact Assessment will serve as a roadmap and guide to become a better organization over the years.
How did we become certified?
B Corps are certified by the nonprofit B Lab. To become certified, a company must: 1) Meet the Performance Requirement: Complete the B Impact Assessment and earn a reviewed minimum score of 80 out of 200 points. 2) Make it Official: Sign a Term sheet and Declaration of Interdependence.
Who are the B Corporations?
The B Corp community is made up of over 2000 companies in more than 50 countries from 130 industries with 1 unifying goal: to redefine success in business.
In the state of Oregon alone, there are more than 120 certified B Corp businesses. See the list of Oregon B Corp businesses here.
