bambu Goes Back to School

When Port Jefferson Middle School teacher, Monica Consalvo contacted us with her idea, we were immediately excited.

Monica teamed up with Alison Heron’s class of 12-13 year olds to arrange to demo our products, and then write product reviews for the school newspaper. We got excited with the idea of putting our products in the hands of kids. And then letting them share their experiences and comments.

Wow. We learned a thing or two ourselves, and wanted to share some of the great and less-than-great comments.

What they had to say about our original ‘Snapstix’ chopsticks -

- from Kate G.

‘these handy dandy utensils are made of bamboo which means that they are environmentally friendly. See, bamboo is a resource that grows almost by itself. There’s no fertilizer or replanting involved, and it grows fast. SCORE!
‘the fun begins as soon as you snap them apart. You can use the chopsticks with practically anything, except soup because…it’s….well….liquid. Yeah, anyway, a suggestion for bambu is to make serving spoons, bowls, plates and knives.’

Kate, you’re a budding journalist. Thanks for the comments, We’re on it!

and from John A.

‘how can you go wrong with organically grown chopsticks? Kids may have trouble because most kids aren’t used to using chopsticks. I’m pretty sure the dinner table would get messy.’

The other product put to the test is our bambu Spork

Elizabeth comments,

‘This is really amazing. You can eat pasta and eat soup at the same time without getting up to get another utensil.’

Melissa wasn’t so sure,

‘the spork doesn’t have as bright of a future in my opinion as the chopsticks. They are to tiny and they can’t really pick up a lot. I could barely hold my soup in the little thing! I don’t think the spork would be the best buy in the world.’

and from Josh S.

‘You see, in our country we have different meals. Say you go to eat chicken with gravy, and mashed potatoes. The fork side works very well. But when you go to eat the mashed potatoes, your hand is drenched in gravy. I would not recommend the Spork.’

Josh. We’d have to agree with you on that.

Thanks for including us in your project and thank you to everyone for sharing your comments, criticism and compliments.
We are always learning….
